Texas Sits in the "Heavy" Termite Zone

For those of us living in South, Central, and East Texas, the warm, damp climate gives termites everything they need to thrive. Left undiscovered and untreated, they cause serious and costly damage to homes.

Termite Facts for Texas Homeowners

Two Kinds of Homes

We have a saying in our office. In the Texas Coastal Region, there are only two kinds of homes, the ones that have termites and the ones that are going to get them.

Billion Dollar Damage

Subterranean termites cause between $1 and $7 billion in property damage across the United States each year, and most homeowners' insurance does not cover it.

Daily Destruction

A single colony can eat about a pound of wood a day, working around the clock to tear down your property.

Why Termite Control Matters

Termites cause over $5 billion in property damage across the US every year. Do not let your property become one of those numbers.

They Work Around the Clock

Termites stay busy day and night, often unseen until the damage is already done.

Damage to Your Home's Frame

They can weaken the structure that holds up your home or business.

Act Early

Catching termites early keeps the damage and the repair bill down.

Prevention Pays Off

Treatment and monitoring stop costly repairs before they start.

Types of Termites in South Texas

Termite species change from one part of the country to another. In our area, subterranean termites are the most likely to go after your home.

Subterranean Termites

The most destructive termites in our area. Their underground colonies can reach the millions, and they slip through cracks as narrow as 1/32 of an inch to get inside.

Formosan Termites

An aggressive subterranean species nicknamed “super termites” for their huge colonies and how fast they eat through wood.

Drywood Termites

These termites need no contact with soil. They can enter on any floor or through your attic instead of through foundation cracks.

Why Termites Cause So Much Damage to Homes

They feed on the cellulose in wood and other plant fibers such as paper and cotton. While hunting for food, they also chew through plastics, rubber, and even thin metal.

How They Get In

They squeeze through cracks as narrow as 1/32 of an inch and slip in through foundation gaps.

Materials They Damage

They go after wood, paper, cotton fabrics, plastics, rubber, and even thin metal.

Repair Costs

They cause $1 to $7 billion in damage across the US each year, and most homeowners’ insurance leaves it out.

Prevention & Treatment
At Pest Solutions, Inc., we offer both Soil Pre-Treatment and Bora-Care® Treatment for new construction.

Soil Pre-Treatment

We apply termiticide to the soil before the slab is poured, which blocks subterranean termites from reaching the structure through hidden routes.

Bora-Care® Treatment

A wood treatment that kills and prevents termites, carpenter ants, wood boring beetles, and decay fungi. It serves as a replacement for soil treatment in new construction.
